The RemovePaywall browser extension
One click on any article opens it in a clean reader view — free, no login, no ads in the reader. The same reader-first extraction and archive fallback as the site, without pasting links. Works in Chrome, Edge and Brave, and in Firefox on desktop and Android.
The extension is in store review. In the meantime, the one-click bookmarklet below works everywhere today.
On your phone
- Any phone: type removepaywall.co/ in front of an article link in the address bar.
- Android (Chrome): open removepaywall.co, then menu ⋮ → Add to Home screen. RemovePaywall then appears in the Share menu of every app.
- Firefox for Android: install the extension from Firefox Add-ons (in review).
One-click bookmarklet (works now)
Drag this button to your bookmarks bar, then click it on any paywalled article:
How it works
- Click the toolbar icon on any article, press Alt+Shift+R, or right-click a link → Read link without the paywall.
- It opens the page in RemovePaywall's clean reader — the article text extracted, no clutter.
- If the live page is gated, it automatically checks archive.today and the Wayback Machine.
Private by design
The extension is a thin launcher — it reads the current tab's URL only when you click it, and opens the reader with it. It does no page manipulation, makes no background requests and keeps no browsing history. When it is installed or removed it opens a page on this site, which we count. Free, no account, no ads in the reader. If you read a publication regularly, please support it with a subscription.
